Fillings & Crowns

High Quality Fillings and Crowns

At Wellesley Family Dental, we are committed to restoring your damaged or decayed tooth.

Fillings & Crowns
Since dental fillings are meant to restore teeth with minor decay, a filling is a great solution if you have a small cavity. One of our skilled dentists will use a drill to remove the areas of decay within the tooth and fill the tooth using composite resin. This is completed in one visit and less expensive than what a crown would cost.

If you have a tooth with a large amount of decay, a filling that large will not be able to strengthen the tooth, therefore, a
crown is far more suitable for this situation. Crowns require the removal of more tooth structure than fillings, however, they are much more durable. When a dental filling is not enough, dental crowns can be used to cover and protect a severely damaged or weak tooth.

What's the Difference?
Fillings
  • Treat minor tooth damage and decay by filling the teeth
  • No impressions
  • Completed in 1 dental visit
  • Less expensive
Crowns
  • Treat severe tooth damage and decay by covering teeth
  • Required impressions
  • Completed in 2 dental visits
  • More expensive

Porcelain Crowns
At Wellesley Family Dental, we offer porcelain crowns which are tooth-shaped caps that cover and protect your tooth. Porcelain crowns are considered to be one of the best dental crowns due to their translucent color which give the most-natural look. During your first crown visit, we will scan your teeth and can give you a temporary crown in just a single-visit using advanced CEREC (CAD/CAM) technology. To learn more about CEREC, click here.  A second visit is required to install a permanent crown after it is delicately prepared in the lab.
