Dentures

Dentures to Enhance Your Smile!

Whether it be gum disease, tooth decay, injury, or aging, there are a variety reasons why you may need dentures. When natural teeth need to be replaced, Wellesley Family Dental offers partial or full dentures as an option.

What Are Dentures?
A denture is a removable dental appliance replacement for missing teeth and surrounding tissue. Dentures are a safe and effective way to replace teeth. They are designed to closely resemble your natural teeth and can enhance your smile all while maintaining the function to chew and talk.

Reasons for Dentures
  • Loss of all teeth in an arch (Complete Denture)
  • Loss of several teeth in an arch (Partial Denture)
  • To enhance your smile and facial tissues
  • To improve chewing, speech, and digestion

Complete Dentures: Conventional vs Immediate
Complete dentures are used when all of the teeth are missing and need to be replaced. A complete denture can be either “conventional” or “immediate.”
  • Conventional dentures are made after the teeth have been removed and the gum tissue has healed. During this healing period, the patient will go without teeth.
  • Immediate dentures are made in advance and are immediately placed after the teeth are removed, thus preventing the patient from having to be without teeth during the healing process. Once the tissues shrink and heal, adjustments will have to be made.

Partial Dentures
For patients who do not need full dentures and still have some natural teeth remaining, partial dentures can be a good option. Partial dentures can also be used to support certain structures in the mouth by fastening to a patient's natural teeth. A partial denture not only fills in the spaces created by missing teeth, but also prevents other teeth from shifting.
Dentures are very durable appliances and will last many years, but may have to be remade, repaired, or readjusted due to normal wear. If you have any questions, please call our office at 781-263-9900.
